I love me some Fossil.

When I take a client shopping, I always get a look of ”for real?” when I tell them that we will be shopping for a few things at FOSSIL. SIDE NOTE: I typically don’t tell a client the stores we’ll be visiting until the moment of. If I told them the evening prior, even the afternoon of our shopping consult, that client would have checked out the site, read reviews about it, checked the twitter, the Facebook….you get the idea. The “new experience” element is gone.

I love that FOSSIL will always provide me with high quality pieces: great leather, cottons, etc; great design: sunglasses are edgy, blazers are cut well, etc., and; great price: much of the styling at FOSSIL is comparable to Anthropologie’s, sans sticker shock.

But I ramble.

Ladies, friends, comadres…the end of your search has come. I’m talking of your search for a locally owned shoe boutique, and let me be the first to say that the wait was sooo worth it! Please help me in giving a big my-feet-have-been waiting-for-you welcome to Stella Says Go - Austin’s only shoe boutique (besides comfort shoe stores). I discovered this store last week during the Well Styled. Well Connected. event at Touch of Sass. In fact, Stella Says Go, is in the old Touch of Sass space.

HELP: Best “back to corporate” clothes shopping

HELP: best “back to corporate” clothes shopping??? My work clothes now range from home office yoga pants to presentation suits ad I need something in-between.

The request above is a very common dillema. A woman leaves Corporate America to be at home with the kidos, when she goes back she realizes that her old corporate self/image…is well…not herself. LBD: Accessories for Wedding

I need a statement necklace to jazz up (and add color to) an LBD for a wedding this weekend. Where would you send me for something fabulous, but affordable?

When accessorizing a little black dress (LBD) for a wedding, the first thing you want to take into account whether the event is casual, cocktail, or formal. As I traveled through Europe I couldn’t help but notice the style of youth in each city…all the same. And when I say “same”, I mean it in a way that proves how music, television and the internet connects youth in a beautiful seamless way…and reminds me of how SAME we all are throughout the world vs. different. Below are photos of youth throughout our European vacation which one could easily say, “No way, those kids are from Austin, L.A, Chicago, New York.”

Fabric Shops: Southern Europe

As I prepared for our trip to southern Europe, I created an outline of fabric shops Iwanted to visit while there. Unfortunatley, I did not have the chance to visit this time, but left me with a huge reason to go back and do so. Regardless, thought it would be nice to share the fabric shops that I think are a must see for their historic and beauty appeal :

BARCELONA:

1. Nunoya - Carrer de la Palla, 6 (in the Born neighborhood, near Placa Catalunya): Nunoya specializes in Japanese silks and accessories of the like. I would like to get my hands on some silk covered buttons and broches.

2. Ribes i Casals – in Placa Urquinaona

3. Gratacos - in Passeig de Gracia and Diagonal St.

FLORENCE

1. Casa dei Tessuti – Via de’Pecori, 20-24r: Leave it to the Italians to make a shrine out of a fabric shop! The shop has a museum and guided tours, which I will be taking, thank you very much.

2. Antico Setifico – Via L. Bartolini, 4 (in the artisan square of San Frediano): I can’t even imagine what I will find at this gem. The place has been around since 1786!

ROME

1. Bassetti Tessuti - Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, 73: The mothership of all fabric stores!! Heard of Armani, Valentino, Balenciaga, etc.? These folks shop here. Someday, I will buy material for a four-piece suit here (pant, jacket, skrt, dress). I loved that every local person knew exactly what I was talking about when I asked general questions about beautiful Rome. From our male taxi driver to this very chic woman who allowed me to take of photo of her….check out those shoes!!!

Some people “retreat”, I travel the world.

Every year I get about thirty invitations for retreats: church retreats, renewing-the-soul retreats, replenishing-my-creativity retreats, boosting-my-business retreats…the list goes on. Sometimes they’re appealing to me, but I’ve gotta say nothing compares to my favorite way of replenishing “Michelle”. This replenishment, this retreat, this recreation-of-self, for me, comes in the act of travel. The act itself is so sacred to me that I rarely even speak of it until the time is very close to being. And when I do speak of it, it’s for the common courtesy of business purposes (and now, blogging). Otherwise, it’s my little secret. My little present to self of just knowing that there is literally a world to be discovered soon, new languages to be heard, new smells to smell, new foods to taste, new architecture to see, new hands to shake, new greetings to say.

Being a personal stylist via Well Styled has provided me the opportunity to CREATE new styles for women through color, shapes, and textures. In the process of “creation”, I often visualize the “Creative Pool” being tapped into…depleted, in some sense. However, “travel” refuels that pool with room for two extra reserves.

As I spoke of my trip with a friend/vendor she said, “Wow, you’re going to be shopping like a maniac over there.” To which I stopped, thought, and replied, “I guess if I get a chance, I will.” Like a plumber who always has a leak at home, I rarely shop in ways that many people think I do. But her comment did make me think further. As I travel southern Europe what do I want to be on the lookout for? The answers were quick and simple:

1. An Italian pen;

2. Fabric – I’ve outlined fabric shops I want to visit in the 10 cities we will be visiting. Upon my return, the fabrics will be used by my tailor, Norma, to create: dresses, skirts, scarves, and a three-piece suit;

3. Custom made sandals - I found a shop in Capri called Canfora that creates gorgeous, hand-crafted sandals within 2 hours.

As I travel abroad, I would love to share with you pieces of my retreat and show you the What, the Who, and the Where my soul gets refueled.
