Everyday Skirts: Spring ’11

Straight from my Inbox this morning:

Michelle, I’m not seeing skirts anywhere that I like for me: Plain, useful, flattering, every-day. Do you have any “go-to” spots for that kind of thing right now. Thanks – Sarah

Sarah, so often when I’m out pre-shopping for a client I’m thinking, no actually saying out loud, “Can’t a girl just get a PLAIN skirt?! I don’t want print, pleats, zippers, on-trend…I WANT SIMPLE!” Fortunately, I go through this process 2-3 per week so that you don’t have to. Here’s what I recommend that’s out NOW, have seen on clients or  have tried on myself. All three examples below are SIMPLE. And by this I mean no zippers in the front (it will create a nasty bulk if you wear your shirts out, which I don’t recommend…but more on that in just a little bit), no pleats (though they’re out like mad this season…stick to what looks good on you girls), no wild colors (trust me, I will be the first to b-line toward a fuchsia skirt, but sometimes a girl just needs a simple skirt that can throw down a sandal and amazing top at the drop of a hat. Can I get an amen?).

But I ramble…on to the goods. First up: NEW YORK & CO.

Streetwear Linen Skirt, New york & Co. $29.95

Second: GAP…I mean c’mon it’s the GAP.  While this skirt may seem a little too short, pairing this with a open-toe flat or sandal (see example below) will turn down the “ooh, la la” in seconds. Also, to make your legs look a mile long, tuck in your shirt. Just do it, trust me on this one. Get a million compliments, then shoot me a “thank you” text later. :)

Textured Tweed Skirt, GAP, $34.99

Third: Ann Taylor LOFT. Ok, on this little number, you must tuck-in your shirt. Otherwise, you will have  button marks coming through your cotton top. Besides, who doesn’t want a little “sailor” in the spring.

Twill Sailor Skirt, Ann Taylor LOFT, $59.50

Have questions on these skirts or would like to comment on the tips provided? Let’s start the conversation in the comments below. Hugs! – Michelle
